The County of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, created by Local Government Acts of 1993 and 2001, is one of four administrative divisions of the old County Dublin, now known as the Dublin Region.

 It takes its name from the town of Dun Laoghaire (formerly aka Kingstown) and the barony of Rathdown, which in turn was called after the Gaelic / pre-Norman Tuatha ruled from the eponymous Ring Fort on the southern slopes of Bray Head.

 The Coastal & Eastern Districts take in Booterstown & Blackrock, Seapoint, Salthill & Monkstown, Dun Laoghaire, Sandycove & Glasthule, Glenageary & Sallynoggin, Bullock Harbour & Dalkey, Killiney & Ballybrack and Shanganagh (Shankill & Environs).

The Central Districts include Clonskeagh,  Milltown, Dundrum & Goatstown, Mount Merrion, Kilmacud & Stillorgan, Leopardstown & Sandycove, Foxrock & Dean’s Grange,  Cabinteely &

The Southern Districts are Carrickmines, Stepaside and Kilternan and Glencullen.

The Western Districts are Rathfarnham, Ballinteer, and Ticknock.
