The West

The West of Ireland refers to the beautiful parts of Co. Clare, Co. Galway and Co. Mayo, notably the Burren, Connemara and the Murrisk and Belmullet Peninsulas.

Dubliners like to wax lyrical about “the Wesht“, never having had to eke out an existence on these windswept and rocky Atlantic shores. A Mayoman once wistfully observed that if scenery were money, he would be a millionaire.
